Victorian Christmas Open House
Victorian Christmas Celebration at the Propst House Museum Showcases Collection of Original Prints
Hickory Landmarks Society will host an annual Victorian Christmas Open House at the Propst House on Sunday December 11, 2016. Using traditional decorations, visitors see and learn about Christmas traditions of a middle class family in late 19th century Hickory. Throughout the house are authentic and reproduction holiday prints drawn by cartoonist Thomas Nast between 1863 and 1885. Each appeared in Harper’s Weekly Magazine, depicting the epitome of a Victorian era Christmas. Also on exhibit are antique postcards and children’s books.
Free guided or self-guided tours include special exhibits featuring holiday greenery and faux Victorian era food. Children and adults alike will find the experience both educational and entertaining. The Open House is from 1:30 until 4:30 in the afternoon. Free to the public. Click here for Propst House information.
