This publication documents the history of the Whisnant-Williams-Simmons House, built in 1938. The Georgian Colonial Revival-style house was designed by local architect Dallas Carroll Abee, Sr. and is the only house in the area build of “Grandfather Stone” quarried from Grandfather Mountain. This fascinating book chronicles the building of the house and its importance in the lives of the four families who have lived there. Along the way, it provides a historical background of the beginnings of the hosiery industry in Hickory and the history of prominent local architects. Meticulous research is punctuated by both historic images and professional photography.
