Tour Itinerary Thursday, February 22, 2024 7:00 am Depart Hickory, NC from Maple Grove (542 2nd St. NE) Includes breakfast on the bus and a Rest Stop break. 9:00 am Replacements Ltd. Brief stop to enjoy the decorative arts museum at the world’s largest selection of vintage and current dinnerware, crystal silver and collectibles.

11:00 am Lunch (on your own) Bus drop off near a varied selection of restaurants. 12:45 pm Board Bus 1:00 pm Joel Lane Museum House Tour the oldest extant home in Wake County and in Raleigh, built in 1769 by founding father Joel Lane. From the first meetings of the Wake County Court, through Committee of Safety strategy sessions during the Revolutionary War, to the final decision to locate the new state capital on Joel Lane’s land in 1792, the house has been central to Raleigh’s history. 3:00 pm Mordecai House Built in 1785, Mordecai house is the oldest house in Raleigh on its original location. The four room hall and parlor house built for Joel Lane’s son as a wedding present was expanded in 1826 into the Neo-Classical home seen today. The house remained in the family until 1964 when it was sold to the City of Raleigh.

Other structures include the c. 1790s Andrew Johnson Birthplace, c. 1810 Badger Iredell Law Office and the c. 1847 St. Mark’s Chapel. 4:00 pm Hotel Check-In (Fairfield Inn and Suites, Crabtree Valley) 6:30 pm Board Bus for Evening Meal and Entertainment

10:30 am Pope House Museum The 1901 Pope House is the only African-American house museum in North Carolina. Original furnishings and artifacts document the family back to the 1860s. 11:30 am – 1:30 pm Lunch at Big Ed’s Enjoy a dining experience full of southern hospitality, joy and laughter. (Included) 2:00 pm Tour the North Carolina Executive Mansion

7:00 pm O’Malley’s Pub and Restaurant Classic Tavern offering Irish-American comfort food. (Meal included) Full bar on your own tab. Live music. 9:00 pm Bus back to hotel. 10:00 pm Last bus back to hotel.

The North Carolina Executive Mansion is not only home to the Governor, it is the “people’s house.” Begun in 1883 and completed in 1891, it is one of the state’s finest examples of Queen Anne style Victorian architecture. Board the bus for the trip home.
